BAY PRIMARY ANNUAL FOOD FAIR

Please join us for supper at the Bay Food Fair on Friday 27 May at the Junior Campus on 10th Avenue, Fish Hoek from 18:00 to 21:00. Everyone is welcome so bring along friends and family for a fun, tasty and affordable feast.

Flavours of the World is the theme – with Greek, Indian, Chinese, Italian, American and good old South Africa fare on offer – all cooked with love by the children, parents and staff. Hope you can come and support our little school with the big heart. See you there!

THE MAD EVENING

This year our theme for the music, art and drama evening was Jazzing and Jiving. All three departments had worked extremely hard to create a fun-filled evening of entertainment for the parents and guests who attended the performance.

Mrs. O' Sullivan exhibited the best art of the year in the limited space available so that everyone could marvel at the children's creativity. Parents could make donations for their children's art work, while enjoying delicious cake donated by The Food Barn and Olympia Bakery, as well as excellent Cafe Pronta coffee.

In the first half of the programme, our two ensembles and the choir, drama and dance groups had an opportunity to show what they were capable of. The choir, under the baton of Mrs Mitchell, and the junior drama group performed The Elephant's Child, a musical story of why the elephant has a long trunk. Judging from the applause, it was one of the highlights of the evening and the children clearly enjoyed it as much as the audience did.

After the interval, the senior drama group, directed by Miss Adriaanse, entertained us with The Jelly Bean Snatcher. This included beautiful solo performances by Thania Mandalios and Ashleigh Downes. Despite a lack of cooperation from some of the microphones, the action was lively, the decor well designed and the costumes colourful. Augmenting the children's enthusiastic efforts, was a fabulous guest jazz band, all of them first-class musicians.
Owing to the dedication and effort of all the teachers, children and parents, everyone enjoyed a highly successful evening of art, music and drama and look forward to repeating the experience next year.

BAY PRIMARY SHINES IN WEB-DESIGN

Team Sharks from Bay Primary School won first place in the Under-12 section of the international ThinkQuest web-design competition for their website "The Great White Shark". The team was also placed in the top 20 internationally.

The judges were impressed that Bay Primary girls Sylvia van Belle, Ashleigh Sayle and Jessica Kipling found their inspiration in False Bay - immediately outside their classroom windows. One of the American judges wrote: "An interesting site and extremely comprehensive. I know my students will love to use this site for their research on sharks."

Western Cape Education Minister, Cameron Dugmore, praised the competition as being a great way to prepare young people for the age of technology. Dan Ellappa, Director of the Oracle University in South Africa, said: "The aim of ThinkQuest is to inspire students to think, connect, create and share. The winning teams have achieved this."

Team members and coaches each received cheques for R1000 from Wendy Beetge, Oracle Foundation South Africa's Head of Transformation and Corporate Social Investment.
